Correspondent to prisoner of war

Ellen Mary Crowe 1942

My mother’s sister, an aunt I never had the pleasure to meet. The fifth of six children born in Belfast – two boys who died at a young age and four girls. Today – 27 Jan – is her birthday.

The photo above was sent to Wilfred Young, her brother-in-law, while he was a prisoner of war and was taken on 18 Jun 1942.

This photo, taken at a later date and signed by Ellen is the only other photograph I have of my aunt.
